The Climate Bonds Initiative

The Climate Bonds Initiative is an investor-focused not-for-profit working to mobilize capital markets to finance climate change solutions. It promotes investment in projects and assets necessary for a rapid transition to a low-carbon economy. Work is three broad work streams:

  • Market promotion: Thought leadership and advocacy on how to encourage investment. This includes bringing the three key actors to the table – industry, investors and governments – to develop the basis of a tripartite agreement under the Climate Bonds concept. Read more here
  • Market facilitation: Proposals for standards, incentives and governance institutions that will support the scaling up of investment. This  includes the development of models and a financial architecture for Climate Bonds designed to deliver accelerated low carbon industry development while creating returns for investors and no-cost, low-carbon inward investment for governments. Read more about policy proposals here
  • Market growth: Development of project models to provide risk-adjusted returns in assets such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, forestry and other climate sectors. Project models are aimed at demonstrating how to engineer investibility through large-scale mitigation and adaptation pilot schemes in both developed and developing countries.
